Application of Change Fees

Refer to the applicable fare rules via your Technology Partner for information on fare conditions and change fees.

Collection of Fees

In all instances where a change fee applies, the ticket must be reissued, and the change fees receipted separately from the ticket using EMD-S. The EMD-S must be:

Change Fee Application for Qantas Fares

When different Qantas fares are combined on a ticket, the following change fee application rules apply:

Only one change fee will be applied to the ticket.

Change Fee Application for No-Show

If the fare rules permit changes to be made after a customer has no-showed, the higher charge for no-show should be collected instead of the charge for reissue/revalidation.

For example:

Charge AUD150.00 for reissue/revalidation

Charge AUD300.00 for no-show

Only one fee should be collected.

Change Fee Application for Interline Fares

When a Qantas fare is combined with another airline's fare to form a return trip, circle trip or open jaw on a half-return basis, and both fares are being changed, the highest, most restrictive change fee applies. Only one change fee applies to the ticket.

Note: If, where permitted, Jetstar only fares are ticketed on Qantas (081), change fees are applied in accordance with Jetstar fare rules.

Further Information

Residual Value

The residual value of a ticket can be used to offset fare and ticket taxes and any remaining residual amount can be refunded through BSP/ARC. Qantas has enabled the use of Residual Value for Refund (RSVR) functionality with most Technology Partner systems globally. RSVR allows the remaining amount on a ticket to be used as credit towards payment of change fees as well as fare/ticket taxes on a new ticket. If technically not possible via your Technology Partner, you must receive payment for the change fee to enable issuance of the EMD-S.

If you require any further information on the use of RSVR please contact your Technology Partner.

Revalidate or Reissue

In all instances where a change fee applies, the ticket must be reissued and the EMD receipted separately from the ticket using EMD-S. The ticket is not permitted to be revalidated. This applies to international and domestic tickets.

Technical Support

Refer to your Technology Partner for information on formats, functionality, specific entries and for instructions on how to issue an EMD.

Change Fee EMD Codes

The change fee for EMD-S is identified using the following codes:

For tickets containing Jetstar Group fares only, the following codes apply:

These codes may vary if you are using a Technology Partner automated re-issue tool. Please refer to your Technology Partner for further information.

Important! The EMD-S for a change fee must be receipted separately, and cross referenced to the new ticket number at the time of reissue.
