Championing beach safety with Surf Life Saving and Cody Simpson

Qantas and Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) have enlisted Australian swimming champion Cody Simpson to support their ongoing commitment to water safety, encouraging Australians to complete their Beach Passport ahead of the peak summer season.

Launched in November 2024 by SLSA, in partnership with Qantas, the Beach Passport is a complimentary online training resource that provides essential water safety education. In its first season, more than 37,000 beachgoers completed the program, equipping themselves with critical knowledge to assess beach conditions and navigate Australian waters safely.

In December, the Beach Passport will be enhanced with a new rip current identification feature to help beachgoers avoid these hazards. Surf Life Saving Australia's 2025 National Coastal Safety Report found that 1 in 2 adults are not confident in identifying a rip current, with 1 in 5 Australian adults unintentionally caught in a rip current in the last year alone.

The collaboration with Cody Simpson represents a natural evolution of the partnership between Qantas and SLSA, which sees two iconic Australian organisations united in their longstanding commitment to safety both on the ground and in the air.

Simpson has been a dedicated Surf Life Saving volunteer and member of his local surf club, Northcliffe Surf Club, since childhood. The Commonwealth Games finalist brings both elite swimming credentials and authentic connection to Australia's surf lifesaving community.

Qantas is offering 150 Qantas Points to Frequent Flyers* who complete the Beach Passport, with the chance for one lucky beachgoer to win 1 million Qantas Points. Qantas is also promoting beach safety to its millions of customers by sharing tips in the Qantas App and via inflight announcements.

The Beach Passport is available at beachpassport.org.au or look out for the QR codes at your favourite beach this summer.

The partnership between the national carrier and Surf Life Saving Australia builds on more than seven years of support from Qantas to SLSA through its Side-by-Side employee grants program, which provides up to $250,000 annually to causes its workforce cares deeply about.
