Qantas brings next-gen A220 to South Australia
From 3 March, the A220 will increasingly replace the smaller Embraer E190s currently operating the route, offering customers more seats, fast and free WiFi, a light and bright cabin design, around 20 per cent more overhead locker space than previous generation aircraft and reduced noise and fuel emissions.
The changes will add up to 100,000 seats to QantasLink's Adelaide network every year.
The A220 is part of the Qantas Group's historic fleet renewal program, with more than 200 new aircraft on order, providing customers with improved comfort, efficiency and reliability. The A220 also has a longer range than the aircraft it is replacing, creating more route possibilities and travel options, as the fleet grows.
Qantas recently received its 11th A220, with four more expected to join the fleet by the middle of the year.
Qantas' A220s have high customer satisfaction ratings and feature:
- Fast and free inflight WiFi.
- 10 Business seats, 127 Economy seats.
- David Caon-designed interiors, with custom-designed Business Class leather seats featuring increased pitch and width.
- Increased overhead compartment storage for carry-on items.
- Ambient LED lighting.
- Minimised cabin noise compared to previous generation aircraft.
- Reduced noise and fuel emissions.
The introduction of the A220s into Adelaide continues the airline's significant investment in South Australia, with the opening of its refurbished lounge precinct in May, the return of international flights with the launch of Adelaide-Auckland flying in October, and the planned establishment of a new Product Innovation Centre in Adelaide's CBD, supported by the South Australian Government and set to create hundreds of local tech jobs.
